I recently brought another copy of this book and found the story as engaging as the first time I read it over 15 years ago. Of all the super teams in the comic book universe, the X-men have always covered social topics like racism and discrimination. The mutations that give them superpowers also set them apart.-
In this graphic novel we find that the Stryker Foundation has accelerated their war against mutant kind. Stryker’s new group the Purifiers are killing those possessing the mutant gene, even if their powers are yet to develop. That is Stryker’s private war, His public war is a growing congregation of humans that are falling prey to his hatred of all things mutant.
This is a story full of depth and exploration of the nature of hate and how it can quickly spread . This book is such an important read but it also succeeds in showing new facets of the X-men’s personalities. Especially Magneto.
